Our Mission

Giving Senior Dogs the Second Chance They Deserve

Silver Snout Senior Dog Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving central Indiana and Southwest Florida. We pull senior dogs from overcrowded shelters and place them in loving foster homes where they receive the medical attention and affection they need.

Many go on to find their fur-ever families. For those with serious health challenges, we provide hospice care so no senior dog spends their final days without love.

In Loving Memory

Always in Our Hearts

“Don’t forget, somewhere between hello and goodbye, there was love. So much love.”

The Rainbow Bridge

These sweet souls were loved deeply during their time with Silver Snout. They may be gone, but they are never forgotten.

Our Commitment

Love Until the End

“Hospice is not about watching an animal die. It’s about making their comfort your priority, and creating moments of joy for them every day.”

Our Hospice Dogs

When a dog comes to us with a terminal diagnosis, we make sure their remaining time is filled with comfort, care, and unconditional love.

Sugar Bear

Sugar Bear

Sweet and gentle. Sugar Bear has a cancerous tumor inside his ear and is in a loving foster home receiving pain management and all the attention he could possibly handle.

Blossom

Blossom

A Chihuahua mix who loves the outdoors and Netflix. Blossom has cancer in her heart and lung, and she’ll spend her final days enjoying sunshine and smelling the roses.

Puppy

Puppy

Loves his fur brothers and sisters and is all about the snuggles. Puppy has cancer throughout his body, but you would hardly know it — he is a very happy and comfortable boy.

Nori

Nori

Came to us when her family could no longer provide the care she needed. Dory has dementia and will spend the rest of her days under our loving care.

Alvin

Alvin

Rescued from a horrendous hoarding situation. He is blind and deaf and suffers from glaucoma. But aside from all of that, he is the coolest dude.

Bodie

Bodie

Rescued from the shelter with a severe degenerative back disease. He’s still getting around well and enjoying every moment in his fospice home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can’t find what you’re looking for? Email us at silversnoutrescue@gmail.com

Do you only rescue dogs from shelters?
No. Although pulling dogs from local shelters is our first priority, we also rescue dogs who have been orphaned for other reasons.
At what age is a dog considered a senior?
Senior dogs are those 8 years old or older.
How do I become a foster?
Once you complete a foster application on our home page, a member of the rescue will reach out. There are no “special requirements” — just an open heart and home. The rescue covers all medical expenses while the dog is in foster. A background check will be run for anyone over the age of 18 in the household.
How does the rescue pay for each foster dog’s medical care?
Silver Snout is a 501(c)3 organization, funded entirely through donations. Every dollar donated goes directly to the care of our dogs.
What determines if a dog is considered a hospice dog?
If a dog is taken into our care and determined to have a medical condition that will expectedly end its life within 1 year or less, it will be placed into hospice care. The rescue assumes full care until the dog passes.
Is there a fee to adopt a Silver Snout dog?
Yes. Our adoption fees range from $150–$300, depending on the amount of veterinary care provided and whether ongoing care will be needed.
